An Ode To England
Britain is also a nation, if we would like to call it that, that has had its own hardship.
People look beyond the ‘Pomp’ of the United Kingdom
Thinking that the small island that it is grew so much.
Rather than taking its history as an offence
Why don’t we examine it to take inspiration?
As we should with all histories.
A denouncement of anything;
A disregard of anything;
Whether that be a history or an opinion;
Is a reflection of one’s ignorance;
Not the object matter.
The UK much like other geographical areas in the world
Had a day before the unification of its vast geographical territories.
Prior to the French invasion of ‘Britain’ in 1066
The island that consists of modern day Wales, England and Scotland
Had not been one ‘unified’ body.
Even today, it is not one unified body.
But somehow they had managed to keep it together
To be under a joint mission.
It is the Bismarckian tactic of creating an ‘other’
Outside of the ‘us’ so that fragments can unite to fight off, or achieve, some shared goal.
It is admirable then in a way that this has been able to occur.
The Scots having complete different influences to those of Southern England; much more influenced by French refinement.
We lose our strength in the South;
Meanwhile Northerners maintain that grit;
That inner Viking
Allowing them to survive the colder winters; the harsher conditions.
Unity;
However, remains strong in community.
Go to the English villages and see how community has been created
At the Church, at the school, at the pub.
Like little Hobbitons, the Shire.
British idyllia;
Summertime in the villages with life renewed again;
An Anglican utopia.
